Juicer or Blender?

The most common question our customers face in consultation is whether it is better to use a juicer or blender . Of course, juicers and mixers are completely different kitchen appliances. Comparing juicer or blender is like asking if jogging is healthier than playing tennis. Both are sports and of course you benefit from any movement.

Juice is squeezed with a juicer, and most of the pomace (pulp and pulp) is separated from the juice. In a blender, fruit is processed with some water to a smoothie, so a rather viscous drink, which contains the complete fruit components, such as shell, pulp and seeds, so all fibers depending on the desired consistency.

For the juicer, it should be a slow-spinning device, not a centrifuge, that spends as little oxygen as possible while squeezing juices, while sparing micronutrients such as enzymes and heat-sensitive vitamins. Dr. Norman W. Walker recommends in his book "Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juices" for example the Champion Juicer from the USA.

With the blender, you should make sure that the blender has a speed of about 30,000 revolutions per minute - such as the Vitamix or Bianco - for the production of really fiber-free smoothies and green smoothies - in the shortest possible time, the fibers (fiber ) break up accordingly. Especially the cellulose fibers of green leafy vegetables, herbs and wild herbs are very robust and can not be broken up effectively by a standard kitchen blender. As a result, the smoothie is hard to digest and also the consistency in the mouth is perceived by most people as not pleasant.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of juicer and blender?

For more than 15 years I drink freshly squeezed juices, for nearly seven years also almost daily (green) smoothies. I love freshly squeezed juices, because they not only taste delicious, but supply the body with concentrated vital substances. They are really good to drink and are very easy to digest, because the fiber in the form of pomace were separated from the juice. The consistency is for me clearly an advantage of freshly squeezed juices. One disadvantage is the sometimes quite high amount of time involved in producing juices compared to smoothies. For the pressing of a liter of juice with a gently working juicer I have to expect about 10-15 minutes. During this time, I cut the fruits and vegetables small, so that it fits into the hopper of the juicer. In most juicer models, the pressed material must then be pressed in with a pusher so that, depending on the type of juice press, the press screw, the press rollers or the cutting unit can process the fruit and vegetables. Then the squeezer separates the solid substances from the juice, from one opening - filtered through a sieve - runs the juice and from the other opening comes the pomace (thus components of the pulp, shell, cores, core casing). The juices - prepared with the juices recommended by us - are strong in color, they contain minimal amounts of vortex oxygen and they are not heated. These are the quality criteria for high-quality juices, so we do not offer centrifugal juicers in our range, because they not only whirl up a lot of oxygen, but it comes to the passing of the juice through the microfine sieve pores to a heat, the enzymes destroyed and thus greatly minimizing the value of the juices. Juices from centrifugal juicers settle down a few minutes after pressing and are frothy.

It generally takes less than five minutes to prepare one or two liters of green smoothies with a blender. The fruit into rough pieces, core casing and cores can be safely left on the fruit while mixing in a powerful blender (eg Vitamix ). The shell should of course be processed as the juice presses at the smoothie. It refers to the shell of apples or pears and not the shell of pineapple or citrus. Then add one or two handfuls of dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach or some herbs or salad and a dash of water to the blender jar and mix for about 30-45 seconds at the highest level. That's it. The blender jar is flushed out with water in a few moments and ready for use again. When juicer, however, there is the intent or essay of many items that must be assembled and disassembled accordingly and of course also after juicing again rinsed and brushed separately. With the time expenditure factor, the mixer clearly has the edge over the juicer. At the volume, the juicer then gains over the mixer. A high-performance mixer runs for the production of a smoothies shorter than a minute, but with a very high volume.

In nutritional terms, smoothies have the advantage over juices that no ingredients are discarded. The smoothie, we drink the fiber. Dietary fiber, as the name implies, could not be superfluous, but fundamental to intestinal health. They also ensure that the sugar from the fruit is metabolized slower and gentler than a juice freshly squeezed with the juicer. The saturation after a smoothie or green smoothie is accordingly longer than with a juice. The advantage of the juice is that as good as no digestive energy is needed, which is why in a weak digestion freshly squeezed juices are often better tolerated than smoothies. Numerous doctors, such as Dr. med . Max Gerson * therefore use freshly squeezed juices as part of their therapy for serious illnesses such as cancer.

Advantages of Juicer

  • highest possible concentration of vital substances

  • higher vital substance intake possible

  • easy to digest

  • recommended for disturbed or weak digestive system

  • Ideal for detoxification / detoxification / detox

  • Relief of the digestive system

  • essential ingredient in cancer therapies such as, for example, Dr. med. Max Gerson

  • instant energy boost

  • suitable for almost all fruits and vegetables (beetroot, carrots), dark green leafy vegetables, sprouts and grasses

  • pleasant drinking consistency, because no fibrous materials or pulp are included

Advantages of Blender

  • The fibers support the digestive system and regulate the stool volume positively

  • The fibers are able to bind toxins and waste and excrete through the stool

  • The fibers ensure a more gentle intake of sugar into the blood

  • Smoothies last longer than juices and are quite a substitute for a meal

  • The production of smoothies is significantly more time-saving than juice juicers

  • the shaker is rinsed very quickly

  • due to the time advantage, the mixer will certainly be used more often than the juicer

  • In the blender, many other things can be prepared such as soups, sauces, vegetable milk, dressings, pesto, nut butters , raw ice cream and much more

Juicer or blender - the conclusion

I like to drink both juices and smoothies. Due to the chronic lack of time as a working person win with me at least during the week always the smoothies. At the weekend, I also like to dedicate myself to the juicer and love to try new juice creations again and again. If you do not own a gently working juicer or a high-performance mixer, I think you should definitely start with the mixer, because the mixer can be used to implement very diverse healthy recipes. In addition to probably the most common use for smoothies and green smoothies, the Blender can also be used to prepare soups, salad dressings, nut butter, vegetable milk, pesto, raw-food ice cream and much more. Such high-performance mixers have a really wide range of applications. The next acquisition should then be missing in a health-conscious household no juicer. This is a great addition to the blender, because for juicing vegetables, such as carrots or beetroot, a pure wheatgrass juice or a multi-day juice treatment for detox purposes you need a juicer and can not cover this with a blender.
